Regent is a North Kingstown, Rhode Island-based manufacturer of all-electric seagliders, a new category of maritime vehicle that combines the speed of an airplane with the operating cost of a boat. Founded in 2020 by MIT aerospace engineers Willliam Thalheimer and Michael Klinker, Regent has built and flown a quarter-scale prototype and is now developing a full-scale, 12-passenger seaglider called the Viceroy.
The company has raised $90 million to date, including a recent $18 million round led by Thiel Capital and featuring strategic investments from Japan Airlines, Lockheed Martin, and Yamato Holdings. Regent has also secured over $8 billion in provisional orders from commercial operators like Brittany Ferries, FRS, Mesa Airlines, Ocean Flyer, and Southern Airways. To fulfill these orders, Regent plans to build up to 600,000 square feet of new manufacturing and testing facilities and deliver its first passenger-carrying Viceroy seagliders by mid-decade.
By joining Regent's growing team, which the company is looking to expand significantly, you would have the opportunity to help pioneer a novel mode of zero-emission passenger transportation. Employees get to work on cutting-edge challenges at the intersection of aerospace, maritime, and electric vehicle engineering. However, as an early-stage company developing an unproven technology, Regent faces risks around vehicle certification, production scaling, and market adoption in a crowded mobility space.
