Impulse Space is developing new space logistics capabilities for the inner solar system. Founded in 2021 by Tom Mueller, the former head of propulsion at SpaceX, the company is leveraging its founders' deep expertise in rocket propulsion to build agile and economical in-space transportation services.
Currently, Impulse is focused on delivering payloads to custom orbits in low Earth orbit (LEO), providing hosted payload services, and deorbiting space assets. Its Mira orbital transfer vehicle will demonstrate these capabilities during the upcoming LEO Express-1 mission in 2026. Impulse is also developing the powerful Helios kick stage designed to transport medium/heavy payloads from LEO directly to geostationary orbits in a single burn.
With a team of 60+ employees backed by investors like RTX Ventures, Founders Fund, and Lux Capital, Impulse offers the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of space logistics and vehicle development. However, the company faces technical challenges like developing new propulsion technology while needing to rapidly scale up operations to support its future missions to geostationary orbit, the Moon, and Mars.
