Antora Energy is developing thermal battery systems that store renewable energy as high-temperature heat in low-cost carbon blocks. This stored heat can be discharged on-demand to supply zero-emissions heat for hard-to-decarbonize industrial sectors like cement, steel, chemicals, and food processing. Antora's proprietary thermophotovoltaic (TPV) technology can also convert the stored heat back into electricity at efficiencies over 40%. By delivering both clean heat and power, Antora's modular, factory-built thermal batteries can cost-effectively address the high energy demand of manufacturers.
The founding team brings deep expertise to tackle this massive challenge. CEO Andrew Ponec previously founded solar electronics company Dragonfly Systems (acquired by SunPower). He partnered with Justin Briggs and MIT alumnus David Bierman around their vision of using cheap renewable power to decarbonize carbon-intensive industries. In 2023, Antora began production of its high-efficiency TPV cells and launched its first commercial-scale 2 MW thermal battery storing energy at record-high temperatures. With over $230 million from top investors like Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, and Decarbonization Partners, Antora is scaling up manufacturing in a new facility to begin delivering thermal battery units in 2024.
As a prospective employee, you would be joining an accomplished 50-person team taking on one of the hardest decarbonization challenges. While novel thermal battery technology carries inherent technical risks, Antora's strong capitalization and early commercial traction put it on a path to becoming a leading provider of clean industrial energy solutions. You have an opportunity to play a key role as the company aims to decarbonize the $30 billion+ market for industrial heat and help manufacturers reach net-zero emissions targets. With its innovative technology, expert team, and strong financial backing, Antora is poised to make a big impact in the rapidly growing climate tech space.
